Taylormade in 2012 is all about tuning and speed. Improved aerodynamics, hotter faces, improved ball speed.
The flagship of TMAG (Taylormade Adidas Golf) is the R11 line. The R11 was the most successful launch in the modern golf era. The new R11s Driver and fairway metals is a step up from its predecessor, which from all the tour success, (Luke Donald, Darren Clarke) and record sales is a pretty difficult feat.
TMAG is very much the leader is custom driver and woods fitting, evident by the new R11S with it's added adjustability, innovative crown design and improved aerodynamics.
At 460cc, the R11S is similar to the original R11, the new R11S features a flat-white crown color and black PVD face to improve alignment and accuracy off the tee. TMAG says the white crown color makes it appear even larger (2%) and adds an advantage given that TaylorMade testing indicates that the majority of golfers gain confidence at address from a head that appears large relative to the ball.
R11S will be 460cc – 20cc more than the original. Generally speaking, more cc leads to more forgiveness.
R11S will have an updated sole plate – The original R11 could be adjusted to sit 3 ways (neutral, open, and closed). R11S will add two new options (slightly open, slightly closed)
Should you take a look at the R11S?
Based on the strength of the original, R11S will certainly be worth a look. The slightly larger clubhead will offer more forgiveness for some players. And the extra face angle positions may attract a few control freaks.
The R11S includes two Movable Weight Technology cartridges weighing 10g and 1g. They can be interchanged to create a draw bias or neutral ball flight. Changing the weights alters the centre of gravity by 4mm from heel to toe promoting up to 20 yards of side-to-side bias.
The TaylorMade R11S Driver is further enchanced by TaylorMade's Inverted Cone Technology that expands the COR zone, or the portion of the club that delivers faster ball speeds. The R11S measures 45.75" and comes equipped with an Aldila RIP Phenom 60g shaft.
