Darren Clarke Captured Open with R11 driver

TaylorMade Tour Staff Professional Darren Clarke captured the Open Championship with r11 driver, realizing a lifelong dream of hoisting the Claret Jug after delivering a virtuoso performance at Royal St. George's. Exceptional ballstriking and true grit fueled Clarke's emotionally charged victory at the Open, his first major championship win in 54 attempts.
Clarke, 42, Becomes Oldest Open Champion Since 1967 Playing r11 driver, Tour Preferred MB Forged Irons, Penta TP Golf Ball.
When Darren Clarke won The Open with his r11 driver in July, it was one of sport’s greatest triumphs ever. Not just by someone from our country, but by someone from any country.
It was a phenomenal achievement. And a hugely popular one too.
Darren, you see, isn’t just a golfer or a sports star.
He’s a man we’ve all grown to care about.
Clarke's nomination five years ago was on the back of turning up at the K Club to play for Europe in the Ryder Cup within two months of losing his wife Heather to breast cancer. He now recognizes a subtle difference in his title claim.
He said: 'I would not have been put up for the award had it not been for the whole experience of that week at the K Club and it was all very difficult for me.
'That first tee shot on the Friday was more difficult that anything I will ever have to do ever.
'Until Rory turned up I had not thought about it this year. But at least I will be in the running for something that I have achieved in the sport – winning the Open.'
"it's been a dream since I’ve been a kid to win The Open, like any kid's dream is, and I’m able to do it, which just feels incredible, incredible right now," Clarke said.*

With the win, Clarke, 42, became the oldest Open Champion since 1967 and left little doubt about the celebration to ensue in his home country of Northern Ireland. Clarke also moved to No. 30 in the Official World Golf Rankings and now ranks sixth in the Race to Dubai.
TaylorMade drivers have been used in 32 victories worldwide in 2011 - more than any other brand. Clarke's victory marks the first major win for the revolutionary R11 driver and second for the Penta TP golf ball. TaylorMade-adidas Golf Tour Staff professional Martin Kaymer won the 2010 PGA Championship playing Penta TP, the first and only five-layer Tour ball and the most complete ball in golf (r11 driver).
